What each one takes, and what it pays.
There are three ways to get rid of an old car, and we only do one of them.
Sell it privately
If the car runs, drives, and could pass a safety inspection without a big repair, a private sale pays the most. It also costs the most time. In Ontario you buy a Used Vehicle Information Package from ServiceOntario, the buyer usually wants a safety certificate so they can plate it, and then there are the messages and the no-shows. If you have the time and the car deserves it, do it.
Donate it
Most charity programs have a yard buy the car and take a cut, and your tax receipt is for what the charity gets. If you would have given that money to the charity anyway, it is a tidy way to do it. If you were counting on the money, it is less than selling the car to a yard yourself. Read the program’s terms before you book.
Scrap it
One call. We give you a number with the towing in it, pick the car up from where it sits, and you are paid the number we agreed on. It makes sense when the car won’t pass a safety without a big repair, when it won’t start and the fix is the engine or the transmission, when it has been sitting for months, or when you just want it gone without listing it.
How to pick
- Runs, solid body, you have time: sell it.
- Runs, you would rather the charity had the money: donate it.
- Big repair, rust, or it hasn’t moved in months: scrap it.
If we think yours should be listed instead, we will say so when you call.
