The yard

Opened in Clarington in 2017

GTA Auto Recycling opened its Clarington yard in 2017 and has been buying cars there since.

When you call, you’re talking to the people who look at the car, work out the number and send the truck. There’s no call centre between you and the yard, so what you’re told on the phone is what happens on pickup day.

Today the yard does three things for the area: it buys cars, running or not; it sells used parts from the cars it buys; and it takes scrap metal from anyone who brings it in. Bring your car in yourself and we add $50 to your offer.

Doing it properly takes longer. Fluids out first, parts checked before they’re sold, metal sorted before it leaves the yard. That’s how we run it.

Inside the yard

What happens to your car

Five steps from your driveway to the recycler. Most of a car’s weight is metal, so most of it gets used again.

  1. Step 01

    Pickup or drop-off

Our truck brings the car in. Or you drive or tow it to us and get $50 on top of your offer.

  2. Step 02

    Check-in

The car is matched to its ownership, signed over to us. The plates come off and go home with you.

  3. Step 03

    Fluids out first

Before anything else, the fuel, oil, coolant and other fluids are drained and collected, and the battery comes out.

  4. Step 04

    Parts people need

If there’s demand for a part, it comes off, gets checked and goes on the shelf for customers who call or text.

  5. Step 05

    Metal recycled

What’s left is sorted and sent for scrap metal, where it’s melted down and made into new metal.

How we deal with people

Five things you can hold us to

These are the rules the yard runs by, whether you’re selling a car or buying a part.

  1. One number, towing in itYou get one cash number. Towing is already counted in it, so nothing gets added on pickup day.
  2. We’ll say if you should sell it yourselfIf your car would fetch more as a private sale, we tell you on the call.
  3. No pressure, no chasingIf the number doesn’t work for you, that’s the end of it. No follow-up calls.
  4. No promises we can’t keepWe don’t promise same-day pickup. We book a time that works and turn up for it.
  5. You talk to the yardThe person on the phone works the yard. Ask anything about your car and you’ll get a straight answer.

Old, wrecked or dead in the driveway, we’ll make you an offer.
